These whole class reading sessions aim to develop children’s comprehension of several extracts from David Walliams texts. There are three sessions included in total - one session each for the following David Walliams texts: -Gangsta Granny -Billionaire Boy -Mr Stink The extracts for reading are included. Following the reading, children partake in a series of activities aiming to develop their retrieval, explanation, inference, prediction and summarising skills. Each session also contains a vocabulary check immediately after the extract is read to clarify any unfamiliar/ difficult language. The tasks are comprised of quick-check questions, solo thinking, pair/ group discussions and deeper thinking activities. The sessions are best suited for children in years 2-4, although with minor adaptations it could feasibly be used with slightly younger and older year groups. This style of whole class reading, in which you are able to dip into a different text each day, is great for broadening the number of texts that children are exposed to and increasing their enthusiasm for reading.
